Obituary – Sr. Mary Julia

It is with deep sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of Sr. Mary Julia
AC on 1 March 2024 at the Carmel Convent in New Delhi after a brief illness.

Sr. Mary Julia was 96 years old when she died having spent 72 years as a
Carmelite Sister in different convents. She started her life of service as a primary
school teacher and was elevated to Vice-Principal and Principal, and eventually, a
Mother Superior and Secretary of the Apostolic Carmelites. Her dedication and
passion to serve God included, in between teaching and administrative duties,
spending time helping the poor and the marginalized, and as a caretaker of the sick
Sisters. She also had a love of music and taught piano.

She touched the lives of so many young children and others from Goa, Mumbai,
Kolkata, Chandigarh and New Delhi. She will be missed by all those whose lives
she touched by her selfless love and care, but especially by her family and all the
Carmelite Sisters.

She was pre-deceased by her parents Miguel Caetan Santan Dos Remedios and
Maria Domitila Purificao Dos Remedios, her sister Lina (Cajetan) and her brother
Tony (Marina). She is survived by her brothers Cleto (Elaine) and Leslie (Arleen).

A special thank you from the family to Sr. Annie, Sr. Tina and all the Sisters and
staff at Carmel Convent who provided such love and care to her in her life, and
gathered around her at her final hour on this earth to pray for her flight to Heaven.

Eternal rest grant unto her,  O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul rest in peace.
