Obituary – Eustace Sylvester De Souza

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Eustace on January 29th, 2021.  Eustace was the loving husband of Rosita, proud father to daughters Astrid De Souza and Sachi Fuhrman (Robert), and even prouder grandfather to Jacob.  He leaves behind his siblings Theresa D’souza (late Armand), Lucy de Sousa (late Pelagio), Tony De Souza (Elizabeth), and Doreen Mendes (Alvaro).  He was predeceased by his parents Alex and Gracie de Souza (Zanzibar).

Eustace will be greatly missed by his in-laws Ross DeMello (Chee), Ronita Fernandes (Maurice), and Rambert DeMello (Elizabeth), his many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends in British Columbia, Ontario, England and all across the globe. He will be fondly remembered by his many patients and their families, those he trained, and his many colleagues from BC Children’s Hospital.  He will also be remembered by the many that he coached and his field hockey teammates over the years.

Eustace always warmly shared his memories of Zanzibar as these were some of the most pivotal times in his life. He was a passionate supporter of the GOA in Vancouver and was so proud of his Goan and Indian heritage. With his mix of fluent Swahili and terrible Konkani, he brought laughter to so many people lives. He will be remembered for pursuing his dreams while always putting his family first and staying true to his Catholic values.  With his loud voice, his mischievous smile, and his big compassionate heart, Eustace leaves behind a hole in the lives of the many people he touched but a lasting imprint on their hearts.
