Obituary – Moira Hyacinth Kilmartin
It is with deep sadness we announce, Moira Hyacinth Kilmartin, 70, of Osoyoos, passed away peacefully in the early hours of February 12, following a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Born to Joseph and Iris Correia on September 26, 1952, in Uganda, Moira remained there until the age of 19, then moving to London to pursue a better life and career in hairdressing.
London is where she met Fergus Kilmartin in 1972. Fergus enthusiastically pursued Moira and she would joke, “I couldn’t get rid of him”. She and Fergus married in 1975 after moving to Canada. Moira opened a hair salon a year later. They remained in the Lower Mainland for 42 years before relocating to the Interior in 2016 to enjoy retirement.
Moira is survived by her husband Fergus, their three children: April, Sean and Nola, and their spouses. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Connor, Evan, Sophia, Liam, Aiden and Xavier. Her mother Iris (since passed) and four siblings: Sam, Noel, Josie and Joe, also mourn her loss. Predeceased are her father, Joseph, and brother, Brian.
Moira worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for her children. She hosted many holidays and took pride in entertaining family and friends. She loved gardening, music and a fun party. Moira volunteered with Kinsmen and many other organizations.
As her memory declined, Moira would most often recall her days in London and meeting Fergus with a smile on her face.
Thank you to Village By The Station in Penticton, B.C., for the loving care provided to Moira for the past two years.
A service will be held at St. Joseph the Worker located at 4451 Williams Road, Richmond on June 2, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with a short reception to follow.
For those who can not attend, the mass will be live streamed.
