In memory of
Celly Dias
March 3, 1930 – June 28, 2024

Celidonio “Celly” Eusebio Dias passed away on June 28, 2024, at the age of 94. He was a beloved husband to Edith for 68 years, a proud father to Giselle (Clayton) and Clive (Barbara), a cherished grandfather to Kelly (Ryan) and Steven (Sabrina), and an adoring great-grandfather, lovingly known as Papa Celly, to Aaliyah, Riley, Ryder, Mya, and Jordan. Celly was a dear friend, a respected colleague to many, and a dedicated sports enthusiast. His commitment to family, friends, community, and teammates, along with his positive spirit and unwavering loyalty, left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Celly was predeceased by his parents, Sebastian and Anna-Rita Dias, and his siblings Tommy (Theresa), Freddy, Reginald (Silvie), Irene Antao (Janu), and Olive (Domenic). He leaves behind his siblings-in-law Ella, Essie, Elma, Eurema, and Greta (Vivian), as well as numerous nieces (Anne DaSilva from Vancouver among one of them), nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews who will miss him dearly.

An extraordinary man with a wide array of interests, hobbies, and talents, Celly developed a love for sports early in life. Tennis and cricket were his fortes, and he spent countless hours honing his skills on the court and field. His talent and dedication led him to compete in many tournaments across East Africa, earning numerous trophies and accolades while forging lifelong friendships. Celly also played hockey, practiced judo, and later enjoyed playing darts and pool, winning many trophies. He even played pickleball until the age of 70.

Celly’s professional life was spent in Trade Finance, specializing in Letters of Credit. He began his career with Ralli Brothers in East Africa and the United Kingdom before joining CIBC when he immigrated to Canada in 1972. In his spare time, he connected with friends and family through his love of sports and travel.

Celly was a quiet, gentle man whose life exemplified dedication to family, loyalty, and kindness. He was always ready to lend a hand, offer a listening ear, or share sage advice about life or gardening—sometimes both. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the countless individuals he inspired throughout his life.
