Richmond siblings Dean and Dielle, children of Miriam & Norbert Saldanha, have qualified to represent Canada at the World Scrabble Championship to be held in Goa, India from Oct 16th to Oct 21st, 2019.
The World Scrabble Championship is due to be held in Goa, India from Oct 16th to Oct 21st, 2019. The tournament brings together the best players from 53 countries around the world.
The tournament is organized by the World English-Language Scrabble Players Association (WESPA). This is a 5-day tournament and players have spent the last year qualifying for a berth and preparing for top honours. There will be intense competition with 32 games played over 4 days, leading up to the Finals that will be contested by the top two players after that.
Richmond’s Dean Saldanha and sister Dielle Saldanha [now Pinto] have qualified to represent Canada and will be part of the Canadian contingent at the tournament.
Both Dean and Dielle are not newcomers to Scrabble competitions. Members of the Vancouver Scrabble Club, they have represented Canada at the World Championships before and have won several smaller Scrabble tournaments all over North America.
They were recently interviewed by Richmond News.
We wish Dean and Dielle the very best of luck!
